A Study on the Storage - Leaf Formation of Leaves in Clove During the Storage of Korean Garlics

Abstract
Changes in weight of various leaves of the garlic clove at the storage under natural conditions were investigated, and the difference among the local strains was compared with the rate.
Swollen bottom of leaf sheath for the new foliage leaves within the clove at the storage were all southern strains, whereas no such characteristics were found with the northerns. Storage-leaf development of leaves in the clove took place after overwintering, and this morphological feature becomes pronounced in April and May when the natural temperature gets warmer.
The local garlic strains having storage leaves of swollen growth at bottom of the leaf sheath of foliage leaves in the clove during the storage are all early maturing and this characteristic is regarded as useful standard for distinguishing earliness of bulbing.
Local garlic strains belonging to the southern type out of 36 strains tested were found and listed to be 15 strains including Seogwipo, and other 21 strains were belonged to the northern type (Fig. 2).
